ROTARY FOUNDATION
The Rotary Foundation
Our Club is one of 33,000 clubs worldwide that is a member of Rotary International. Our Club participates with the work that Rotary International does through The Rotary Foundation, which administers hundreds of projects around the world, from water wells in Kenya to literacy programs in India. The total amount raised in 2010 for these projects, worldwide, was US $108 million. The Rotary Club of Canmore has donated a total of US $102,000 to The Rotary Foundation for its many worthwhile causes. These causes focus on 6 main areas:
Peace and Conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development
The Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation has partnered with The Rotary Foundation in the US
$200 million Polio Plus Challenge. Rotary is to raise US $200 million and the
Gates’ Foundation will match with US $355 million. So far, Rotary has raised US $190 million
towards this goal and we are within the “final inch” of eradicating polio
throughout the world. The Rotary Club of Canmore has donated $37,000 towards
this cause.
Our Club
has 40 Paul Harris Fellows, who have donated at least US $1,000 to The Rotary
Foundation projects.
